Welcome toNewark Academy Sixth Form
It is my genuine pleasure to be able to welcome you to Newark Academy Sixth Form (NA6).
At NA6, we are passionately committed to providing an excellent post-16 experience where inspirational teaching offers students the knowledge, skills and experiences that fully prepare them for their future pathway.
Through vibrant, innovative and expert teaching, which is informed by national and international educational research, students develop the resilience and tenacity to excel and they are challenged to be the very best version of themselves in everything they do.
Here at NA6, we offer a fully inclusive and integrated experience for students and centre our broad and balanced curriculum on our GREAT academy values and our ‘Dare to Excel’ motto. As a member of NA6, students develop their responsibilities to themselves and others through their ‘Crew’ membership and understand the importance of teamwork, responsibility and collaboration in helping themselves and others on their way to completing their own ‘learning journey’. Many of our Year 11 students choose to stay with us because they understand the importance of being a member of our Newark Academy Crew and the Crew of NA6 are provided with a range of opportunities to demonstrate excellence.
Maximising students’ development and achievement is central to our success and it is our aim that students leave us with a passion for life-long learning and as well-rounded adults, who are economically self-sufficient and ready and able to make a positive and lasting contribution on both the local and global communities in which they live.
Through our bespoke pastoral programme, our Crew Leaders provide guidance and support sessions to support our X12 students make the best start possible to life at NA6 as they look to move into X13 and post-18 provision including access to Russell Group universities and higher level apprenticeships. Our extensive careers guidance and crew programme also ensures students develop the confidence of character and the wider skills and competencies to make an effective transition to post-18 study.
We also offer a broad range of leadership opportunities and extra-curricular activities through our NA6 Diploma. Through this programme, our students demonstrate leadership qualities and, most importantly, they are ambassadors for the entire academy. They take great pride in continuing to shape and contribute to the excellent community to which they belong.
Ultimately, students are provided with the opportunity to experience a sixth form setting that is warm, caring and inclusive and focused on providing the very best teaching and learning alongside an enrichment programme that is unique and varied.
We hope from reading this prospectus that you feel that NA6 is the place where you can continue to develop and excel and we look forward to meeting you in the very near future.

Our GREAT values
We encourage our students at NA6 to demonstrate our GREAT values at all times and see the value of their contributions to society and the contributions made by others.
These core values ensure students develop strong relationships with others and develop highly prized personal qualities such as patience, strength of purpose, perseverance and humility.
Students demonstrate awareness of the positive impact they can have on their local community through the projects that they undertake as a part of the NA6 Diploma and it is through these experiences that they cultivate these personal qualities.
‘Dare to Excel’
Our ‘Dare to Excel’ motto builds upon the academy ethos of ‘Work Hard, Be Kind’ and our motto is securely underpinned by our GREAT values.
Our motto challenges students to do their utmost on a daily basis and with each task and challenge and to be the very best version of themselves.
We dare our students to constantly look for the next step in their learning and strive for excellence in everything they embark on.

Teaching
Newark Academy Sixth Form teachers are highly skilled, experienced professionals who have a deep and varied knowledge of the subjects that they teach. Through quality first teaching, students are provided with the educational experiences that ignite imagination, inspire curiosity and challenge thinking.
Subject specialists use action research to ensure everyday practice remains at the cutting edge of teaching and learning and ensue that students are supported to achieve only the very best outcomes as they prepare to transition to the next phase of education or employment.
All students have timetabled lessons in each of their subjects along with independent study periods and access to additional learning resources across the academy and the Nova Education Trust.
NA6 Study Challenges
Teachers at NA6 recognise the importance of independent study and dare students to excel during their unstructured time through our NA6 Study Challenges. These challenges invite students to exercise their critical thinking skills and promote core study skills such as time management, problem solving and extended writing skills. These challenges are a key part of our success in supporting students to achieve and excel in their academic studies.
Enrichment
Learning extends beyond the classroom at NA6. We have a diverse and vibrant enrichment programme which gives students the essential skills and qualities that universities and future employers desire to see.
Students broaden their knowledge and understanding of the world and develop strong relationships with others through a variety of opportunities such as World Challenge, The National Citizens Service and a range of sporting clubs and unique societies which focus on personal interests.
We are a crew!
Students access a well-developed and carefully curated crew programme that seeks to provide support and guidance on personal welfare, finance, careers and core study skills.
NA6 Crew Leaders are experts and students meet with their Crew Leaders on a daily basis and are the first point of contact for personal and academic advice and support.
